My young Norwegian friend Matias Johannessen spent 60 days in Indonesia on an adventure of discovery as a "sociologist", as a "traveller of the world"...to learn, to see, to explore. Not just an ordinary tourist for places of interest sight-seeing though.
Matias visited Mount Merapi, one of Indonesia's most dangerous volcanoes, which first erupted on October 26, has killed over 120 people and forced the evacuation of more than 200,000. The volcano, which lies on the outskirts of the city of Yogyakarta on Java Island, covered nearby villages and towns in ash.
The ash cloud also disrupted flights in the region, burnt houses, vegetation and livestock. Terrified villagers have fled the area, joining the thousands already evacuated from its slopes.
Matias posted this video clip of the aftermath of the village, blog to express:
The purpose of this incidental blog is not to be a "spoilsport" while everyone everywhere are having fun and enjoy this on Christmas Eve 2010 today.
While we celebrate spiritually the "Spirit of Christmas", we find the source for peace, harmony, joy and love. “Peace on earth and goodwill to all men . . .” the very reason Christmas celebrate!

A small example of how devastating the situation is. The healing process will be long and painful and in no way does the need for aid stop when lava stops flowing and fancy pictures can be taken. In some ways you could say that the biggest need begins once the eruptions stop... Pray for Indonesia! This "Third Dimension (3D) blog" of the personal perspective of "Different Place. Same Time. Different Journey and Experience".

"Crying In The Chapel" by Elvis PresleyMerry Christmas!
You saw me crying in the chapel.
The tears I shed were tears of joy
I know the meaning of contentment
Now I am happy with the Lord
Just a plain and simple chapel
Where humble people go to pray
I pray the Lord that I'll grow stronger
As I live from day to day
I've searched and I've searched
But I couldn't find
No way on earth
To gain peace of mind
Now I'm happy in the chapel
Where people are of one accord
We gather in the chapel
Just to sing and praise the Lord
Ev'ry sinner looks for something
That will put his heart at ease
There is only one true answer
He must get down on his knees
Meet your neighbor in the chapel
Join with him in tears of joy
You'll know the meaning of contentment
Then you'll be happy with the Lord
You'll search and you'll search
But you'll never find
No way on earth
To gain peace of mind
Take your troubles to the chapel
Get down on your knees and pray
Your burdens will be lighter
And you'll surely find the way

"Peace, harmony etc."
Sadly we read in today's newspapers that in Indonesia, police have to be deployed to protect worshippers attending church from terrorists.
Of course I am not in any way implying that the misery that Indonesians suffer from the volcanos and other natural disasters is related to the way this country treats its Christians.
